Osmosis tube-

Relative height doesn’t matter. One tube can be higher up than the other. Food coloring in one side helps to see osmosis.

Moving because of difference in concentration of THINGS that are DISSOLVED (solute)

Better to use two things that are very different – corn syrup and water for example

Water is on both sides. But side with water has MORE water, LESS dissolved stuff. Corn syrup side has LESS water and MORE solute. So where is the water going to move towards the MORE solute

Good to do right before eggs. Set up osmosis tube then go to eggs then come back at the end of the period.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE – raisins in salt water and regular water. In regular water they swell, what do they do in salt? NOT Shrink! Potato, onion, etc will shrink in salt water but raisin still plumps up!

Salt solutions don’t work – has to be actually buried in salt to work

corn syrup makes egg DECREASE water and makes it wrinkled

MUMMIES - can mummify anything with just baking soda. Water is important for life!
